This design included most areas of the existing home. Currently the home has a detached ADU which houses a design studio on the lower floor and a 2-bedroom apt. upstairs.
Areas of the design:
Kitchen (eliminating an existing bedroom to increase the size of the kitchen)
Updated bathroom off the kitchen
New 2 story addition for dining room and upstairs bedroom
Wrap-around-porch
2 car garage with roof sun porch (new hallway to attach garage to main house and addition to the existing ADU.
Primary bedroom walk-in closet
Addition off of the second level of the ADU.
Landscape design for front, side, and backyard
The goal was to design a professional style kitchen with a dining area that would connect the outdoors to the inside. Currently the large front and side yard were not being utilized. With a new landscaping design which would increase privacy, the addition of an accordion style door off the new dining area would connect the side yard for outdoor dining under a covered porch. The covered porch would wrap around the home connecting the existing front porch. For rainy NW living this would allow more time spent outdoors on those typical gloomy Portland days. The backyard was designed with the goal of an outdoor spa oasis. A new 2 car garage with a roof top garden deck was an addition to the design. On those sunny days it will be a great spot to soak up some sun. The primary bedroom is located on the 2nd floor. The owners wanted to add a larger walk-in closet and increase its size by building over the proposed dining room. We chose to go with a gable style roof in this area and tie it into the existing hip roof design. The proposed gable plays off of the ADU's roof style.
